Ufuk Tan Altunkaya yönetmen, dramaturg ve oyuncudur. 1984’te Almanya’nın Villingen-Schwenningen kentinde doğdu. İzmir’de iktisat ile Türk dili ve edebiyatı okudu; İstanbul Üniversitesi’nde tiyatro eleştirmenliği ve dramaturji yüksek lisansını tamamladı. Halen Freie Universität Berlin’de tiyatro ve politika üzerine doktora çalışmasını sürdürüyor.

Tiyatroya 1998’de İzmir’de başladı. Theater Gessnerallee (Zürih), garajistanbul (İstanbul) ve Karşıyaka Şehir Tiyatrosu gibi kurumlarda oyuncu, yönetmen ve yönetmen yardımcısı olarak çalıştı; Yeditepe Üniversitesi’nde ders verdi.

2008’de İstanbul’da Mekan Artı’yı kurdu ve 2017’ye kadar bu sahnenin sanat yönetmenliğini yaptı. Kırktan fazla oyun yönetti, çok sayıda metin yazdı. Çalışmalarında tek seyircilik ve alana özgü sahneleme öne çıkar; 1980 darbesi, gözaltında kayıplar, mübadele ve queer tarih gibi politik konulara odaklandı. Oyunları Anadolu Kültür’ün “Memory and Art” projesi kapsamında desteklendi.

2017’de Berlin’e taşındı. Theater28’de Türk-Alman Tiyatro Festivali’nin direktörlüğünü (2018–2020), Ballhaus Prinzenallee ve Kultursalon programlarının yöneticiliğini (2018–2022) üstlendi. 2021’den bu yana Tiyatro Berlin’in kurucusu ve sanat yönetmenidir; 2022’den beri Maxim Gorki Theater’da Lola Arias’ın Mother Tongue projesinde oyuncu olarak yer alıyor; 2024’ten bu yana Ballhaus Prinzenallee’de Proud Haram Festivali’nin direktörlüğünü yapıyor ve cabinet:novus kolektifinde çalışıyor.

Ufuk Tan Altunkaya ist Regisseur, Dramaturg und Schauspieler. Er wurde 1984 in Villingen-Schwenningen geboren. In İzmir studierte er Wirtschaft sowie türkische Sprache und Literatur; an der Universität İstanbul absolvierte er einen Master in Theaterwissenschaft und Dramaturgie. Derzeit promoviert er an der Freien Universität Berlin zum Verhältnis von Theater und Politik.

Seine Theaterarbeit begann 1998 in İzmir. Er arbeitete als Schauspieler, Regisseur und Regieassistent an Häusern wie dem Theater Gessnerallee (Zürich), garajistanbul (İstanbul) und dem Stadttheater Karşıyaka und lehrte an der Yeditepe-Universität.

2008 gründete er in İstanbul Mekan Artı und leitete die Bühne bis 2017 künstlerisch. Er inszenierte über vierzig Stücke und schrieb viele eigene Texte. Im Zentrum seiner Arbeit stehen Ein-Personen- und ortsspezifische Inszenierungen sowie politische Themen wie der Putsch von 1980, erzwungenes Verschwinden, der Bevölkerungsaustausch und queere Geschichte. Seine Arbeiten wurden im Rahmen des Projekts „Memory and Art“ von Anadolu Kültür gefördert.

2017 zog er nach Berlin. Er leitete das Türkisch-Deutsche Theaterfestival am Theater28 (2018–2020) und verantwortete die Programme von Ballhaus Prinzenallee und Kultursalon (2018–2022). Seit 2021 ist er Gründer und künstlerischer Leiter von Tiyatro Berlin; seit 2022 Gastschauspieler in Lola Arias’ Mother Tongue am Maxim Gorki Theater; seit 2024 Leiter des Proud Haram Festivals im Ballhaus Prinzenallee und Mitglied des Kollektivs cabinet:novus.

Ufuk Tan Altunkaya is a director, dramaturg and performer. He was born in 1984 in Villingen-Schwenningen, Germany. He studied economics and Turkish language and literature in İzmir, and holds an MA in theatre criticism and dramaturgy from İstanbul University. He is a PhD candidate in theatre and politics at the Freie Universität Berlin.

He began making theatre in İzmir in 1998. He has worked as performer, director and assistant director at institutions including Theater Gessnerallee (Zurich), garajistanbul (İstanbul) and the Karşıyaka City Theatre, and taught at Yeditepe University.

In 2008 he founded Mekan Artı in İstanbul and served as its artistic director until 2017. He directed more than forty productions and wrote many of his own texts. His work centres on single-spectator and site-specific staging, and on political subjects such as the 1980 coup, enforced disappearances, the population exchange and queer history. His plays were supported within Anadolu Kültür’s “Memory and Art” project.

He moved to Berlin in 2017. He directed the Turkish-German Theatre Festival at Theater28 (2018–2020) and led the Ballhaus Prinzenallee and Kultursalon programmes (2018–2022). Since 2021 he has been founder and artistic director of Tiyatro Berlin; since 2022 a performer in Lola Arias’ Mother Tongue at the Maxim Gorki Theater; and since 2024 director of the Proud Haram Festival at Ballhaus Prinzenallee, while also working with the cabinet:novus collective.
